Graphic Design is a profession all of its own. To become a professional, you need to live and breathe the principles at its core. By understanding the subtleties of the visual messages around us, we can reinterpret them in new ways. We apply this understanding using elements we hold dear; typography, photography, illustration, colour and texture. A graphic designer expertly combines these elements to communicate an idea, and evoke an emotional response in their audience.

The graphic designer’s toolkit

You might think being a graphic designer means being surgically attached to a Mac. We do love them, but at Design College, we know even a Mac cannot think for you. We train our brains to perform like athletes, and our athletics is practiced on the humble sketchpad. We develop our work through any medium suited to our idea. From printmaking to potato stamping, if it helps tell our story, it’s in. Our computers are used to develop our final work using industry standard software, leading us to a polished design outcome. It’s a creative journey, and getting there is half the fun.
